Biography
I'm the co-founder and director of Live Wild, an organisation based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, which invites people of all ages to rediscover the ‘wild nature’ both inside and outside of us.
I run regular foraging day courses in Hebden Bridge and occasionally Northumberland with the wonderful Sophie Wren, a member of the Association of Foragers. We also run our longer term Forager's Journey programme which allows the group to experience foraging in the way that feels best to me; in a supportive community, gathering, exploring and learning together through the seasons.
I also mentor children in foraging and plant/mushroom connection during our monthly nature mentoring sessions and the weekly Calder Valley Woodland School I run for home educated children, which allows young people to build a deep connection with nature and each other over the seasons and years.
My background as a qualified Bushcraft Instructor and Forest School Leader have been a great influence on my approach to teaching foraging, as well as the Art of Mentoring ethos. I'm happiest when I can share foraging in a wholistic context, using all our senses, gathering respectfully and playfully with homemade baskets, and then building a fire to cook up our finds - I'm a strong believer that all food tastes best cooked together over a fire!
